The SBLLN is the only program in Santa Barbara that addresses the under-representation of Latinas in leadership positions. Our events promote the professional and personal development of Latinas in our community.

Stress and Anxiety: Their Impact on Women’s Health and Happiness

Join us for a conversation hour with Dr. Teresa Albizu, Co-Founder of the SBLLN, who will share valuable information and tips about: What are common causes of stress and anxiety for women? How to identify the physical and emotional symptoms of stress and anxiety. Effective strategies for coping with stress and anxiety. Take ownership of your own happiness in life. Teresa is a personal and professional relationship expert, possessing over 15 years of experience with couples, family and relationship counseling. She is passionate about women's empowerment issues, and blends her unique expertise in mental health, psychology and leadership to coach and mentor women in achieving personal and professional success. Latina Negotiation Boot Camp

The Santa Barbara Latina Leaders Network presented nationally renowned negotiation expert Dr. Yasmin Davidds who facilitated a unique one-day intensive training which went beyond exploration of potential barriers that may hold Latinas back and teaches women how to re-frame their interactions and accurately evaluate their opportunities.

The Leadership Challenge

The Leadership Challenge workshop teaches you how to apply Jim Kouzes and Barry Posner's Five Practices of Exemplary Leadership model using workbook exercises , group problem-solving tasks, and The Leadership Practices Inventory (LPI).

Dolores Huerta Event

The SBLLN had the opportunity to meet Dolores Huerta on May 15, 2013 at the Santa Barbara Club. Fifteen Latina Leaders attended the Santa Barbara Women’s Political Committee annual event – Cosmopolitics. At the event, Dolores Huerta gave the SBLLN a standing ovation and urged other women in the room to make room for ALL women to become leaders in Santa Barbara. It was a true honor to be recognized by Dolores Huerta.

2014 County Board of Supervisors Recognition

A testament to the Network’s impact in our community, is having received the following recognitions during the first year and a half of our launching. On April 8, 2014 the SBLLN received a resolution from the Board of Supervisors in honor of Cesar Chavez Day. On November 8, 2013 the SBLLN received public official acknowledgements from Senator Hannah Beth-Jackson, First District Supervisor Salud Carbajal, and Mayor Helene Schneider for the networks’ commitment to empowering Latinas with personal and professional development opportunities.

Yogiando SBLLN Mixer

The Santa Barbara Latina Leaders Network partnered with Yogiando to hold social event that featured yoga instruction for our members. This was a unique opportunity to learn some basic yoga moves and get to know each other better.

Making it to the Top: The Journey of Four Women Leaders

The Santa Barbara Latina Leaders Network presented a panel of four unique women who shared their story and lessons learned from their leadership journey. This event was a huge success! Our distinguished panel shared their stories and engaged the audience in a dialogue about women's leadership.

Latinas Speaking Up with Confidence

This event discussed the importance of Latinas speaking in public with greater confidence, especially as Latinas advance professionally in corporate business, the non profit sector, education and government positions.

Work Life Balance: Is there Such a Thing?

Facilitators discussed what self-care and achieving balance means for Latinas while providing effective strategies and exercises to lessen overload and energy depletion.

Toastmasters Demonstration Event

Toastmasters held a demonstration meeting for the Santa Barbara Latinas Leaders Network. This was an opportunity for our network to share similar experiences and stories about our mothers, tias, abuelitas and hermanas to hone our communication skills while getting to know each other better.
